184th Recon Airplane Company
call sign Nonstop
dedicated to those who served honorably in
the Vietnam Conflict
The 184th RAC
flew observation missions in support of US and Vietnamese forces during the
Vietnam Conflict. The unit flew the O1-G Birddog single engine, two place, high
wing aircraft. The missions included conducting artillery fire missions,
directing air strikes, and general reconnaissance.
Great Time at the Summer 2008 Gathering...
Really good turnout for the 184th gathering at Fort Rucker 26 -
29 June. Lots of catching up to do as some of the members had not seen
each other for about 40 years. We had a chance to have some meals
together, visit the Aviators Landing where we had a nice dinner,
program and
talk time. We also got to honor a few special people to include Charles
Race for his efforts in restoring his Birddog in the 184 RAC colors.
Mike Medlin arranged a visit to the Aviation Heritage Foundation on Saturday
afternoon where we were privileged to see several Birddogs fly in for the event.
Many thanks to those who were kind enough to take time and finances to honor us
with their presence. We hope to have another gathering in the future.

Now that the Charles Race Birddog
is completed, Charles flew to Elizabeth Town Kentucky to show off his completed
Birddog Project to Billy Hibbs on 12 March, 2008. The communications from
both Charles and Billy indicated that they had a great time together. This
is the first meeting for the two and I am confident not the last.

This
is a nice Birddog and we know it took a lot of work to make this plane look this
good. This is a picture of the finished project. Charlie will be at the
Gathering 26-29 June so we can see this great airplane first hand
New!! A rare find
... go to the Tapes For Home
page andlisten to the new additions. Be sure to listen to the ones from 28
and 29 August 66 as this is a rare ,if not the only, tape made in the air while
flying in a Birddog. This will surely bring back memories.
