The reel to reel tape
recorder was an essential tool for the pilots of
the 184th RAC to communicate with friends and loved ones back in the
states. It did not replace written letters but it did let the guys
ad a personal touch to the communications with back home. Better
yet, it sure was nice to hear the wife's voice telling of the events
back home when the new tape arrived. I guess it was the email of
the day. No one better used the tape player than Billy Hibbs.
Billy even saved the tapes from Vietnam all these years and just
recently discovered a method to transfer the sounds from the old reel to
reel to CD. Billy has consented to let us put some of these
communications on the web. From these tapes we get some "almost
lost" insight to how it was when we flew way back when. So... set
back and listen to the tapes as we post them on the web.
Thanks Billy
You may have to adjust your volume
a little
as these tapes were 40 years old when converted
