During the Vietnam Conflict there were eleven Birddog aviation companies that supported ground operations. These Birddog units served in various areas of Vietnam and were designated in various ways. They were organized as an Aviation Company, Surveillance Airplane Light Company, Recon Airplane Company and even other designations. These Birddog companies are most commonly referred to as RAC (Recon Airplane Company).
